Electric vehicle supply equipment station

Electric recharging point for cars or electrical motorbikes needs to identify user before acceding to charging point.

Kimaldi Electronics has wide experience developing products for Network renting system for bicycles and bike renting, both in users and bikes’ identification, and so in activation and control system. Thousands of these products have been installed in Spain through different customers, which give this kind of automated solutions in several cities.

Electric vehicle supply or electric recharging point of vehicles (cars, motorbikes or bikes), placed in public spaces, neighbourhood associations or shared points, need to identify users to activate process of supply charging and also for energy invoicing. Users’ identification can be done through several technologies:

• RFID or proximity Cards (for example Mifare or DESfire Technology cards)
• Smart cards, chip cards or even ID cards
• Technology Biometría
• Magnetic Stripe cards

Best technology choice depends on each case and different aspects like vehicle electric recharging point environment (public or private), users’ number, combined card or ID card, etc. Customer who has developed this solution has chosen Mifare RFID technology, due to its comfortability for user and security, although any of the other technologies can be adapted to this solution, Kimaldi has readers for all these identification technologies with several finishes and connectivities.

Furthermore people’s identification, sometimes is also necessary to identify electrical vehicle in electric recharging point, before doing the charging process. This identification is common when, for example, is about renting electric vehicles or when electric charge is only allowed in a vehicle park of a neighbourhood association. Vehicle’s identification, by using RFID Tag, is also advisable in some cases to provide the system with more security.

Finally, in this electric vehicle supply equipment station solution, Kimaldi’s products are also used for communication interface with user and for different system elements’ activation.
